I always wanted to be able to "compress" the views of my multi-deck layout. Most of the decks are only 15 inches wide, and have only 15 inches of clearance between them. This makes photos difficult. This shot shows the farmland section of the layout, on the second deck. I used the Helicon software, which seems to be all the rage. It should be. This was a 25-shot sequence on a D100 at a focal length of 55mm (80 mm SLR equivalent). It is the type of shot that shows off a shelf layout, which mine essentially is. The four Alcos head a 30-car unit-train that is climbing to the third deck. Below is farmland. EDIT: I uploaded it to the established Railimages site, instead of the beta test site. Perhaps it will work? [ January 16, 2006, 10:12 PM: Message edited by: Pete Nolan ]

Neat! I really like the look of "open" farmland. Not many have the layout space to pull this off. Looks really good, Pete.
Yes, Helicon Focus. Part of the famland is Photoshopped in. This is on the second deck, which is only 15 inches wide. It does have six inches of farmland between the outermost track and the edge. The "rubber stamp" tool lets me extend it to the edge of the image.
I am enjoying this software more than any other model railroad product for a very long time! It enables shots that I have long envisioned, but never been able to capture, due to depth of field issues. I've been out in the train room almost every night, trying out shots that I've wanted to take for 35 years. I think this was the spur that will get me to photograph and write about the layout.
