Here's something I drew up for SPng #18, digitally kitbashed from a Bachmann On30 4-6-0. Should I ever want narrow gauge as a side interest (God help me I'm never going back to TTn3), On30 seems to be a viable option.
Plenty of interest in On30 these days. Are you going to do this project? If so, looking froward to seeing photos! Boxcab E50
Probably not for a while. I love On30's detail and reliability; it does, after all, run 1000% better than N scale. I wouldn't go into On30 unless I had the money and space to start a 4x8 layout and build up some rolling stock. Since I have neither, On30 will have to wait until after college unless I diverted all future funding from my SD&AE layout for the next couple years. I may end up possibly selling my SD&AE layout before college to save up for On30 or some more SD&AE stuff in N scale. I honestly don't know where I'd put it. If I take it with me to college I'll find stuff was stolen while it sat in my dorm room unattended. If I leave it at home it will be destroyed in the first month. (I left it alone for a week and went back into the garage to find that my mom had somehow torn out some exposed wiring on the underside while walking by. I'm still scratching my head on that one.) But i'm sticking with N scale for now...
Well, as someone who has both N and On30, I'd not say On30 runs 1000% better than N, I would say in some instances, it does, in others then N is better. Boxcab E50
I am planning a couple of kit bashes along these lines. There are a couple of kits availible for whaleback tenders. Only time will tell how they will turn out.
