Hey Paul...they seem to bunch up at times...but everything I've heard on the scanner etc..and from other railfans here...about 25 a day...not counting about 10 locals that go up and down the Vegas valley. Mike
It is not the Rio. The shot above is of the nroth strip, downtown area, the Rio is a much more modern hotel located near the southern part of the strip, near the mega resorts. The shade of the Rio parking garage though is a great free place to watch the UP roll by.
Thanks...no the background you see is the old downtown Vegas...where UP use to have a sizeable yard at one time...and passenger trains stopped...the following pic..was taken a couple of miles south, is the Rio...it is just west of the strip off of the I-15.
Mike, whats the name of the Casino in the centre with the reflection? Not sure if I recall it being there when I visited in 99. Tom, Welcome to Trainboard always good seeing new members posting for the first time.
Nice shot! That kind of glare is hard to avoid, and sometimes can improve a shot. The leader is decent, and there is a former BN unit trailing. Nice catch!
Mike - how do you get there? I'll be spending a few hours in Vegas this Thursday and I don't like to gamble...
The area where the Rio is in the background? It is off of Dean Martin/Industrial Blvd, south of Twain I believe is the cross street...I can check further...behind a Subway sandwich shop, I just pull my car around...and you can park in the dirt right behind the place...perfect spot..many times crews park their trains there when they are early in town...or they don't have a relief crew on duty for a bit of time...and not to clog up the main line...the dispatcher will halt the train there.
Nice shots there- I especially like where you opened up with a pair of Aces.......personally, I'd see the bet & raise. That one casino in the pic made it other-worldly. Keep 'em coming!
