Last year I took Amtrak's Capital Limited from Pittsburgh, PA to Harpers Ferry, WV. I remember it was a nice day and a scenic run over the former B&O now CSX line. I got pics from the observation car of Connellsville Yard, Cumberland Yard and many more. I especially planned this trip, cause i discovered by reading the timetable that i could take the eastbound to harpers ferrry and lay over there for about 5 hours, then take the westbound back to Pittsburg all in the same day. Five hours was a good amount of time in case amtrak was running late. I hanged out at Harpers Ferry trying to get a shot of the bridge over the Potomac from every angle i could find. This is a very historical little village and it was loaded with tourists. I ended up getting an extra hour to railfan here cause amtrak was already an hour late out of washinton d.c.

Looking back from a year ago it is hard to remember what everthing is. I believe the first photo is from Connelsville, PA and then the next shots are from Cumberland. The tower i think is from Mexico interlocking

This part of the railroad is actually in Maryland, but everyone still refers to it as Hancock. The first shot is of HO Tower. It was a an active tower when i passed it but with in the last year CSX closed it and tore it down. The other pic is the old freight station in hancock.

Now the cool pics. I got off the train here and railfanned all day. Unfortunately CSX wasn't running much freight. I think I only saw two freights and a light engine move. I had my video camera so i got it all on video. The first pic is of the depot. The next is the bridge over the Potomac River. The last pic shows the double track mainline on the left and the single track Winchester branchline on the left. The unique thing here is that the junction switch is inside the tunnel of that mountain. One of only few interlockings in the whole country to be inside a tunnel.

Neat stuff! I really like depots. And that three story tall tower is cool!

I was reading in a book and it said that the tower in the depot was once the interlocking tower for the junction inside the mountain.

One more photo that i forgot to show. This was the westbound capital limited in the union station at Pittsburgh. It was at night time and the photo turned out alright.
