Does anyone have a line or know of a place where I can get some of those green boxcars so common to the rear end of Amtrak trains???Thanks in advance...
They hve never been released in N scale. Walthers did them in HO. From what I remember they are 60ft, so I believe your best bet would be to use the microtrains 60ft, highcube, plug-door autoparts boxcar and make a reasonable stand-in representive. Looks like a dark green, oh maybe a Southern green, and piece together some decals as I doubt anyone ever release decals, but check microscale I guess. Good luck.
The ExpressTrak reefers are completely different from the standard boxcars used in express service, but at least they somewhat matched the rest of the consist.
There's three (four if you count the MHC's) cars used in Express service. The green cars were ex-SP cars rebuilt for Amtrak. The 60' cars were built by Trenton and Trinity. More info here.. http://www.hebners.net/amtrak/amtEXPRESS.html The third, the Express Reefers, are rebuilt mech reefers. They are here.. http://www.hebners.net/amtrak/amtREEF.html (Big thanks for Jim Hebner for having these pages available!) While nothing is currently available, I'm sure someone will get them done. Kel
No problem. With the changes going on at Amtrak, it may be a fallen flag soon. But the express business is still interesting to me. Kel
