In another thread about road bed, AMI has been mentioned a lot. My question is this, other than road bed what other uses have folks here put it to use. On the box, I see it can be used for roads...any one try that and how were the results.

So, what other uses have people found for AMI?

Is that the stuff that is like window caulking? It comes sandwiched between paper strips? If that's the same stuff I wouldn't leave it uncovered if you use it for a roadway as it's pretty sticky and would attract all kinds of lint and hair and whatever else made contact with it. You could ballast it with some fine sifted dirt and then bond it for a dirt road effect. You could also stick some shirt cardboard strips to it for an elevated roadway effect then paint the cardboard any way you wanted. Just a couple of ideas.

Of course you can use it alot of ways. My club uses it for roads for example. Buy the HO kind and you have a 2 lane road, or the N, and use it as a single road off somewhere. Because I always have this fear of it loosing up one day, especially on the curves, apply some contact cement near the edges. Then paint the road the basic color you want, such as Woodland Scenics Road Paint-Asphalt. Or you can scribe in lines and paint it a concrete color to give you a concrete roadway. You can also scribe bricks into it as a brick roadway. The only problem is that the roadbed is soft. One too many hands and you'll soon have dips in the road, and they DONT look like potholes. But its that big of a deal. And also you can use AMI as a scenic filler. Certain gaps that cant be filled with plaster as its too deep are easily handled by AMI, just cut each strip up and place it on top of each other. I've also used AMI as a base for buildings and other support uses.
