What is the difference between a "mixed" freight and manifest freight?

In the day - a Mixed freight was a mix of passenger and freight. I believe the Georgia RR was the last Class 1 carrier to operate a Mixed, between Augusta and Atlanta.

A Manifest train is all freight of varying kinds - both loaded cars and empty cars.

    Thanks DJ,
Must admit I do enjoy your programmes, and have watched several of the 'yard' drone videos that you have done for inspiration and thoughts on my N gauge layout 'Rock Creek Canyon and Gunnislake Yard', which is about to get back underway in a new form. Nice shooting - being a British modeller and having worked on the railways over here, your videos give a great insight into how operations vary Stateside!

I do know that "mixed" was a past term and what they were, but I hear and read so many people referencing manifest freights instead as "mixed" these days. Just the same from TT & TO days, when direction was "westward" or "southward". Now I hear "eastbound" and "northbound" instead. Apparently the terminology has evolved?
