I posted some pics that I took a few weeks ago while I was up in da UP (Youpee). For those not of the Great Lakes area the UP is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Amasa lies on the Channing, MI to Ontonagon, MI line. This is now owned by the Escanaba & Lake Superior and the line is in good shape. The yard at Channing was the busiest I have seen it since I started going up in '97. There has also been some physical plant improvements, so the money and business appears to be better than before The depot is suffering from some vandalized windows, a settling foundation and old paint. But, from what I saw through the windows, the interior is solid and dry. Like many things in the UP it was left as is once it lost it's useful purpose as a depot. It appears to be used by E&LS as there were newer items left in the visible interior areas, and the windowless freight room on the north end of the building had newer (IE clean and polished) switch lock on it. For those of you not in the know, the E&LS had some property ripped off by some rail "enthusiasts" back in the late 80's or early 90's and has had a VERY dim view of having foamers around. Luckily, this depot has never been manned in the two times I have visited. Channing, until this trip, had a very large black and white sign in front of the depot that read: PRIVATE PROPERTY KEEP OUT RAILFANS NOT WANTED OR NEEDED This trip it was laying against the depot. The engineer working the yard actually waved back with all 5 fingers instead of the usual 1. Anyway, the pics are posted on Railimages in the Fallen Flag passenger section. If anyone knows how to link it to this post, please let me know. Enjoy, Mark PS-I do have more shots of the depot and the yard at Channing-the films at the lab. Yeah, film. I have a thing for outdated technology..something I seem to be becoming myself. That could explain my attraction to older women
I'd always wondered if some day I might know a reason for my being drawn to old depots, old RR paper.... One easy way to add photos, my favorite, is when creating a post or topic to scroll down below the emoticons. Look under "Additional options" for "Manage Attachments." Give that a try. Boxcab E50
Using this method, they only load as clickable thumbnails. But that extra mouse click sure leads to some neat views today! Boxcab E50
