While passing through Martell,CA yesterday, I noticed something missing. A quick left turn brought me to an empty lot where the Amador Central depot had stood. Asking around, I found this happened about four months ago. The going consensus is there was nothing salvaged first including records and safes. All just bulldozed and hauled away. I've got no further info.
It is stunning, the ignorance of our general public concerning history and preservation. Thankfully ancients such as Greece, Rome, et al, were not schooled in such deliberate destruction. I am at a loss to comprehend our frantic paced national rush to remove things which the illiterate eye considers to be blight. It is nothing less than disgraceful. I hope the site is now used for something pressing and vital- Such as a parking lot, or a burger barf.
