There ia a story about this photo. It was taken in the early 1970's. The train is Amtrak's northbound Coast Starlight. The locomotives were changed at Portland. SP didn't want their SDP45's off line. BN provided EMD E units to take the train from Portland to Seattle. This day the Coast Starlight was north of Salem so was less than a hour away. The BN E's wouldn't start. Not even crank, just dead. I don't know what went on behind the scenes but in a while BN Alco Century 636 number 4363 came over from the Hoyt Street roundhouse and took the dead EMD's and the train to Seattle all on it's own. Right on BIG ALCO
