My N Guage interests are primarily passenger service on the Alaska Railroad during the DOT era (1960s), and with some modern equipment (1990s). My locomotives are DCC, and some with sound. I have approximately 45 custom painted passenger cars (many by Karl Haddow). I was operating on club's modular layout, but it is down for a two-year massive expansion and electronics upgrade on our permanent layout .
Welcome aboard! Sounds like it's time to grab some Unitrack to run on, until the club layout is back up and running.
This is a great idea. A set like V11 would be great for passenger trains. If you are not familiar with Unitrack it was designed to be assembled and disassembled many, many times. Most people in Japan don't have room for a permanent layout so they set up track on a table, desk or the floor, run trains and then pack everything away until the next time. This is the V11 set. It has broad curves and requires a 50"x92" space if set up as shown. There are other single and double track sets. Running trains on a temporary layout is fun and a lot better than not running at all.
