ARR is a very neat railroad with unique power (GP49's), unique operations, railroad-run passenger service, dome cars, unit oil and coal trains, distinctive cabeese, and so much more! Who all here likes ARR? A buddy of mine is an ARR fanatic, and he has taughtme a lot about them. The ARR videos I have seen are also very cool. Some are COLD, too!
I have the Pentrex ARR video. Love the in cab audio, and views from an F unit. My VCR is wired through the stereo, and WOW! The sound is wonderful! Boxcab E50
I recently read an article that ARR is about to close a deal with Canada to extend its line all the way to White Horse, Yukon Territory. If this deal goes through, it means that the ARR will effectively link up with the White Pass & Yukon RR that connects Skagway, Alaska with White Horse, Y.T. What a ride that would be!!!
The last I read, the deal for a link connecting the ARR and Canada and on to the US is far from sure. However, indications are they are moving in the right direction. The ARR is owned by the State of Alaska, so you know that the legislative process will be slow. The ARR is the last full-service railroad in the US, and, so far as I can determine, still very railfan friendly.

Good find Lady Sunshine. No shortage of pictures on that first one. Here is another one, which happens to be owned by the ARR's number one fan--a guy in Ohio by the name of John Combs. http://www.alaskarails.org/
Here,s one I took while stationed in Alaska. I was and still am a fan. Have a couple more, but they are not good.
I rode that train a few years ago. That was when it was pulled only by the 40s. The ride was enough to make me an ARR fan. Didn't get many pictures on that trip, however. Hemi, where was your shot taken? Denali?
The SD70MAC pic I posted doesn't have location info... Snowfighting gives you more info on the way ARR survives the snow... Someof the GP40 units are receiving HEP capability, and the SD70MAC's I think have some sort of HEP ability. Alaska GP49, correct me if I'm wrong...
Count me too. A friend of mine went up to Alaska in 1985 and tells of solid consists of F units pulling the passenger train. They were on the gravel trains too. They had alco MRS-1's switching the yard and a couple of E-8's running too. Greg
