I am going to start on a project to chop and modify a pair of GP7's I have. I found some pictures of Alaska Railroad's GP7's that ride on AAR Type B trucks. Were they delivered like this, or were the trucks from a trade in?

    Pat,

Can't wait to see how you do this project. This has been on my to do list for years. Every time I see Atlas is releasing a new run of GP-7s I hold my breath hoping that they'll put out a "u" version. I'm starting to turn blue waiting!!
You might want to take a look at this website for reference pics and maybe an answer to your question : http://alaskarails.org/thumbs/former-loco/index-gone-loco-g.html
Are you going to make an angled cab or rounded one? Regardless, please start a "How To" thread on your project. I haven't been brave enough to chop into a high hood without guidance from someone who's tried it already.

When GP7s were new, I don't think any power with AAR B trucks was old enough to have been retired. That still doesn't say whether they were delivered that way by railroad request or if the trucks were taken from retired power (RF-1s?)
