A couple of pics of the handover of the casting moulds from me to Peter. AC Models becomes N Scale Kits.
Peter: 2 suggestions. 1. Have a North American stocking distributor. (Not Walthers or Horizon) 2. Offer assembled and decorated cars as well as kits.
What, no lawyers and contracts? Just a handshake? mg: :giggle7yc: Congratulations. I hope it works out well for all.
You would have needed a fork lift to hand over the molds for HO! mg: It's good to see that the results of your excellent work will continue!
Looking at the pics, I realized that my hair is going grey and Peter's has just, well.... gone. Sorry Peter.
Bravo!! Like the others have said, us intermodal modellers are WAY GLAD that these beautiful kits will continue to be available. Good luck Peter!!
Sadly - yes. I am afraid that I did not get a special haircut for the magic day! Many thanks for all of the good wishes - we are nearly ready to go now. New ideas will be released some time after the launch . Launch date still set for the end of the month. We will be shipping immediately after then. Peter N Scale Kits PS I thought we could open up one of the molds to see the intricate work, only for it to be a set of flat sills; the dullest of dull cuts, so thought better of it!
Great to see the handover, I'm not sure if you answered the question in another topic Pete but will you be doing just kits or RTR also???
The business plan is to start with the kits - and then bring out some rtr in the medium term. The first two or three releases will be kits, but we are looking at the economics of rtr. Profitability is a bit marginal especially at domestic labor rates. However, it is on the horizon but not in the immediate future. Hope that this helps. Best wishes to all Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits
A historic N Scale moment! Thanks for sharing with us! Alan, again, Thank You for bringing us some of the best N Scale Intermodal kits. And Peter, Thank You for stepping in to continue this tradition! Looking forward to the future of this well loved line of kits!
I would love to get some RTR, but not at $50 a flat/ $100+ for a articulated car. These models are good... good enough to get real pad printing done. Maybe you can get a painter/assembiler in China?
Labor cost to assemble is always an issue in the US, ...but we certainly have Pad printers.......... What do you think would be the price point that these 89' flats would sell, decorated & R-T-R ? This is an open ended question for anyone ! Steven
I wrestle with this question every day. I know I could sell more items if they were assembled, but would people be willing to pay the price. Even when produced in China, high quality models are not cheap. So far, the loadest voice is price point. That means kits to keep costs down and the item affordable. My two cents....
