Hello everyone, just so you know this used to be an employer of mine and here are some of the pics i took over the years from 2005 to 2007. This railroad is headquartered in Gadsden, AL and is an Omnitrax owned railroad. Here is a pic of an LTEX engine on a shop track in the Gadsden, AL yard. Here is a pic of an outlawed M716 train in Albertville, AL.
SP 5387 in Ragland, AL on the ex SAL line on the ATN In BHAM on ATN ex SAL main two ATN trains wait to go into CSX Boyles Yard. The runthrough power is a Z411 empty grain train. The train in the siding is a Z390 mixed freight. the 390 is the regular road train on the ATN while the 411 is a once a week grain train that serves Tyson chicken feed mills in Gadsden and Albertville
These are pics from Gadsden, AL yard. This is the main and biggest yard on the ATN. It was once a combined NC&STL and L&N yards. There is also a connection track to an ex SOU yard that is where interchange is make with the NS. This coil car has an interesting cover on it. Can anyone see what it says ? These were our two and only cabooses on the ATN and some knucklehead shoved them off the end of the track. The answer : is DT&I
Some pics of BHAm and our connection with CSX at the 5th Ave switch. EX NS ex CR now PRSX Progress Rail B23-7 in CSX Boyles Yard
Progress Rail Albertville, AL This is a customer of the ATN and receives old railroad cars to be scrapped. The scrap is then loaded into gondola cars and shipped out to CSX and CMC steel mill in BHAM. We would give them 15 to 20 cutup cars a day and by the next day they would be completely dismantled and put in gondola cars. Some of the parts are recycled or rebuilt to include the wheels and air brake assemblies.
This car was sitting in Gadsden Yard and awaiting its fate with the cutting torch at Progress Rail. Great to see an ex PRR in AL or better yet anywhere.
Gadsden, AL Here is a pic of the ex L&N swing bridge over the Coosa River in downtown Gadsden. Here is the best place to see trains is the street running in downtown Gadsden. Now I've been to LaGrange, KY and St. Mary's , WV , but this is the longest street running I have ever seen. Here is Laney Tunnel on the ex L&N about ten miles south of Gadsden.
One day while in BHAM i snuck over to the ex Frisco BNSF yard. Check out that SD-9 Check out those GP-7 remote control locomotives. These were in great shape and I remember they even had automatic handbrakes.
Pic of a Road Train on the ex SAL main Pic with the artillery guns is in Odenville , AL on ex SAL main Pic inside Gadsden Yard. Check out the GP-20 (ex Cotton Belt) & the GP-40 Widecab ex CN now HLCX also the HBRY 2001 GP38-2
Dan, those are great pictures, thank you. In your fourth post with the photo of OMLX 2001 (GP-38-2), the engineer leaning out of the window looks like Jerry DeBene...is it?
CSX Locomotive Shop In Boyles Yard Here is some of the run through power that i saw in Boyles yard at the locomotive servicing tracks
First Pic is of Gadsden Yard with ex Cr power from CSX. Second Pic is me trying to look like an engineer in the cab of an ex SP now LTEX sd45 Third and Fourth pic is our train in Boyles Yard. The last pic was taken from the top floor of the South Yard Tower and our train was in the receiving yard ready to depart.
