Can anyone supply a date for when the N&W gained control of the AC&Y? Searching the internet, I found one site that gave a date of 1964. But that's as close as I can get. If 1964, what month and day?

The AC&Y was merged with the N&W, NKP and WAB by purchase (and W&LE by lease) on Oct. 16, 1964. However, the AC&Y corporation was not dissolved until Jan. 01, 1982.
    Hope this helps.

    Bill-

Actually, I'm a little confused. I know that 1964 date from Wabash, NKP, etc. But I had the 1982 for the absorption of AC&Y operations.

I have multiple train orders dating well after 1964. (1966, 1968, 1970.) Even one on their new yellow form dated 1973. My 1980 Official Guide still shows AC&Y as an independent operation.

Maybe I can catch you on the IM over the weekend and talk more about this?

    Ken,
exactly! That's why I put the Jan 1982 date in there as well. A company may be merged into another company or holding company but still not lose it's image, identity, operations etc.
There are examples everywhere, such as when N&W merged the EL & D&H into Dereco (by purchase), but each kept their separate identities etc. Other examples would be the T&P & MP, SSW & SP and CofG & SOU. A more recent example (but a bit different in structure) would be the merger of B&M, MEC and ST into Guilford (and even prior to Guilford, the ST & B&M). They are merged, however each of the former railroads identities has not been eliminated as sometimes happens. There are still locomotives and rolling stock carrying the former road names etc.
The extent of a merger/takeover can range all the way from just owning another railroads stock (and placed in trust, as was fashionable from about the late 1800's onward), such as the LV & PRR with no other apparent changes, to a purchase that results in complete elimination of everything referring to the purchased railroads identity etc such as the BR&P and B&O.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck with your project,
    Bill

    Bill-

Oh what a project it is! I had some of this info on a Zip disk that went south. Now I'm trying to recover it all. And more questions keep coming up! Is this a hobby? Or is it work?

Sounds like a "labor of love" to me Ken!
I hope you'll be able to recreate all your info, and the project will be successful.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Here's one for you guys... When was the last independent AC&Y employee timetable issued?

I have one from 1965 so I know they were issuing them at least for a while after the N&W aquisition.
