Nice start to Spring here in St Thomas Ontario.

CP Frame train 742 (St. Thomas-Oshawa) never made it with its usual Cab Car (ex RS18u)-GP 38-2 combo. It went with a GP9u.

Reason, spring thaws bring some rail problems, the power was the victim at the Interchange with the CN CASO Sub. GP38-2 3057, Cab 1117 and one covered hopper, ended up on the ground.

Was a nice rerailing effort, both with CN AND CP working together getting the units and car back on the rails. Made for a nice day off for me, and 14 shots on the camera, of the "joint effort".

Hi Jon , last night the UP power I ran from Battle Creek to Flint were the :

UP 4233 w/wings painted on the front . I think it was a SD75I? Bascially it was brand new , I think it was new in September 2000 .

The second unit was a UP 6100 of some kind , don't remember the last two numerals , sorry .

I had it all written down but I left the paper work on the power at Flint .

When we set the UP power out @ Flint , we picked the CN 5657 .

Train #277 will then pick the UP power up at Flint and take it back west , the train will go to Proviso in Chicago and then farther west on the UP .

We passed #277 at Imlay City which is 30 miles from Flint , so the UP power had a short stay , we only had 38 empty tri-levels , the one unit had no problem going 60 MPH :D when we left Flint .

But overall I liked the UP 4233 , yes it was a SD70or75 , I looked for some paper work on it but it did not have any , other than the daily inspection cards , which is odd .

My only complaint is that it had a desktop control .

    UP 4233 is a SD70M and the 61?? sounds like an SD60M. If the61?? was a wide nose with a three piece windshield, it's definately a SD60M.

All I know is that rear unit , the 61?? was pure junk :D

Did not even have a radio in it , toilet stank , made the cab smell like **** :D

I had to walk thru it once to check the handbrake .

We bought one of the RDC2's (BC Rail) even though we are in N. We can run it at a friends house. We love it. By the way, the Canadian RDC models are suppose to be a bit better looking than the american ones. You will be happy with your new child.

A very Happy Birthday to you Daniel!!!

Just think, you are well on your way to becoming an old geezer yourself now! Someday you will wake up and find the young "kids" discussing the paint on a new Mag-Lev driver-less "transport unit". They will marvel at your vast knowledge of way back when there were such old timey things as Trains with wheels, that actually had diesel engines in just one car, and had to be hand driven by some guy that was called an "Engineer" or something like that. WOW!

They will no more be able to visualize what a 20 cylinder diesel engine sounded like than you can right now really understand our love for our fine steam engines. And Just try to emagine, there was not a single part of a steam engine designed or made with a computer! "It will be here before you realize it has happened", my Grandfather told me 60 years ago!

It seems like you have YEARS before you have to worry about getting old, but I'm telling you, you better enjoy every minute while you can, because someday soon, no one will be driving the "train" you may be on! I know, I helped design some of the control PC boards that are being developed to run the robot Transport Units (trains of the future) hauling both freight and passengers. You wouldn't believe what's coming any more than someone could have convinced us that a man would actually pick up a rock from the Moon and bring it back home to Earth!

Maybe someday you will remember part of this and think of me kindly, and say to yourself, yep he told me, and here it is. WOW! :D

That CASO yard is a really good place to watch de-rails...... Jon can tell you about that, usually one out of every 25 trains ends up on the ground  and usually CP gets the bad end of the stick, that's two in a row for them. LOL, OH well, that's what you get for running CN CP on ex.NYC territory, it's the curse. [IMG]
