I've heard absolutely nothing on this till today. While attending the Ione Railfair, I took a jaunt up the hill to Martell to catch #10 at the engine house. My first site was a fresh scrap pile. Seems the scrapping of #9 begun last month and the crew was well into it with basically only the frame and trucks left. Even one side of the frame had been burned through. She is definately a gonner. May we have a moment of silence. #10 was still inside and it appeared no preparation was taking place for her run today. I asked about this to the crew that was reducing #9 to junk. They had no idea bout her running. They did however inform me that she (#10) was going to the Virginia & Truckee to live out the rest of her life. In fact they had expected her to leave Martell sometime last week or the week before. What!?!? When did this happen??? Where is all the news on the net??? Anyhow, that is the "breaking news" for today.
Nope, nothing at Martell except the two different engine shop buildings and the depot. By the way, the depot is just falling apart. Got a couple pics of it too. Will get everything added to my AMC page once I get my film developed.
John, Looked for you today. My wife said some one was looking for me but I guess we probably passed a couple of times. I flagged for the Scagget Car on its last run before lunch. I the deal with the 10 has been going to happen for over a year now. I was told the 9 was going to the city park in Ione. Well it sounds to me like that did not happen either. I have talked to the powers that be about trying to keep the 10 and change trucks from the 9 so the 10 could be run. But the story still remains the 10 will go to the V&T. When?? who knows. My bet is it will still be there next year. I took some pictures also and i will get them on here as soon as time permits. Shannon

In this picture from 2001 the depot doesn't look that bad. Today's visit revealed much more damage and decay. Currently the RRC owns the lease to the line so for the known future it will not become a trail.
