Hey Gang I have a set of Plano etched stainless steel grills I would like to apply on my Kato F7B. Is there a consensus for what kind of adhesive works best ? Thanks JoeW
Personally, I would use Micro-Klear. I used that one time to re-glue a walkway on an IM covered hopper. It worked slick!
All of the fancier options aside, I've had decent results with both Elmers glues and any of the CA/super glues. The trick, to me, is to keep the adhesive just around the edges so none of the grillwork accidentally gets filled in. I also believe that the primer and paint later applied assists in keeping the part stuck in place.
I believe "Canopy Glue" has been recommended. Available in Hobby Shops that has RC planes, etc. It's made by both Testors and Pacer. Pacer has it under their "Zap" line. Here's a link for more info.... http://www.supergluecorp.com/zap/zap-glues/formula-560-canopy-glue - Mike
Whatever glue you use, touch the grill with your hands as little as possible.Your body temp will shrink the grill, and when it cools back down,it will bow up in the middle..I place it on the shell, and glue only one end,let it sit for fifteen minutes or so,then glue the other end, then the sides..
Got it done today. Took Lou's suggestion and keep it clean (no touching) I used canopy glue per Mike and Otto's recommendation, I applied it with a micro brush and rubbed it down a few times, until the grille stopped bowing up which only took a few minutes. Set it down came back to it a couple of hours later and it was done. Very nice and very pleased thank you for the help guys. JoeW
