    Guys please read before posting!!!

I am trying to compile some information on adding weight to the to some of the available steam locos on the market. In attempts to search the forums I was not able to find what I was looking for...argh!

I am making 3 seperate posts and asking for responses from people that HAVE made the modifications. If you can include pictures that would be fantastic.

I am NOT looking for suggestions or opinions or speculation.

I would like to compile everyones efforts and post them to my blog so that they can be easily found (as well as on the forum). Much like a "How To" or "Loco Shops" threads found on TB.

    Thanks guys,
    Tim

Chris has done it, but the extent that he went to add weight is more work than many would be willing to do. He milled out anything on the frame that wasn't structural and replaced it with lead and tungsten.

The biggest fix to a Berkshire is to replace/modify the drawbar, something Randy and Chris have done.

    Tim,
In the 0-8-0 thread I gave a link to a guy on E-bay selling Tungsten rod. I just today bought more off of him to put in a new Berkshire I also just bought today.

My last Berkshire was gutted and filled with tungsten powder mixed with epoxy. Again like in the 0-8-0 thread I now know that way isn't very effective.

The main thing with the Berk is the front end is light. I'd cut the front 1/2" (or as much as you can) off the frame and replace with a 3/8" dia tungsten rod. The e-bay guy will cut it to exact length for you. #220233872239
