I am fairly new to model railroading. I model CSX and want to run a four engine lash up of Atlas SD60M's. I have purchased rd #8759 and rd #8783 but haven't seen any other rd #'s available. I was considering buying a couple of units with no road #'s and adding them myself. Suggestions on how to do this, where to get supplies, etc.

    Thanks, Herb

Really pretty simple. You need to get some decals, that's all. Microscale makes alphabet & number sets for most RRs, but I'm not sure which road you're modeling (BN, BNSF, CSX, UP - I'm guessing CSX from the rd #s). Microscale number 60915 should do fine for you, that is CSX widecab diesels as of 1990. I'd also get some Walthers Solvaset to help secure the decals, and maybe some flat finish to complete the job.

If you're not familiar with decalling, let us know and we can explain that.

I've found it necessary to apply a gloss or satin finish to the area prior to applying decals. Many Atlas finishes are a bit dull and you can get "silvering" under the decals without adding a glossier finish first. This can be airbrushed on or applied carefully with a brush in thin coats. After applying setting solutions of your choice, the area can be evened out again with a flat finish.

Thanks for the reply. I am not familiar with decalling; further explanation would be much appreciated.
