every now and then i bid on items which ship to usa only. after contacting the seller about international shipping i often get the reply : 'sure no problem. i know you from <insert any name> forum !' therefore wouldn't it help if we had a way to add our ebay names to the profile and make them searchable ? what do you think ?
Sure sounds good to me. Make adding eBay ID's optional. I use two separate eBay IDs anyway. One for buying and one for selling.
I would rather see items listed in the TB trainstore first but if they go on to EBay then having an ID would be great...I'll buy from TB folk before I buy from anyone else! J
I must be a cussed old so-and-so; like almost every poll or survey I get this doesn't have 'my' option Mine could be called the 'Don't care' category, though it isn't really. It would be a nice option to have; but though I use ebay, it isn't often enough that this is a facility I can really say would be useful to me. I'm also mindful of the extra work it might place on our volunteer administrators. To be truly useful there would need to be a way to search TB for an ebay username (so you can see if your seller is one of us), which may take more than a 'few clicks and a line of code' to set up. Certainly an interesting idea Sandro.
might be easier to just add line to your auctions Trainboard member "Jsmith", then you could search for auctions with the word "trainboard" and let ebays engines pull them up. but I would not be against listing my ebay name here.
Someone had to click that last button on the poll. I figured it was my job. LOL Seriously, I'm not into the idea of sharing all info on here.
I don't want to give out my eBay user ID cause I will probably be flamed in one of the forums after I snipe an auction out from another TB'er! :tb-tongue:
I like the idea of putting "Trainboard member blahblahblah" in the listing on eBay. Let eBay deal with any additional work/bandwidth/etc., and not this board. I think I have only ever sold one thing on eBay. I tend to just sell things on the local craigslist so that I can just get cash up front and if someone's a fool and tries to pull something I can just send them away empty-handed. I wouldn't be put off by other people on this board listing their ebay names if that's what they want to do.
 Agree 100%, plus free advertising for Trainboard, not the other way around... Plus the last thing we want is posts that start off with: "Has anyone bought an item from ebay user Charger?" or even better "I bought an item from Charger and have not heard from him in the 5 minutes since I sent my Paypal payment, is he still alive?" We see / deal with enough of these post on online retailers.... Now one thing I do like is seeing Passenger Rail Milage in the signature my $.0000002 Brad
I sell as personal service to clean out my junk so I don't have to throw it away. Cheating sellersby sellng them junk? Hey, They Don't Have to Bid! - And everything is lised with a full description.
A better alternative You can always sell on the TB "TrainStore" in lieu of eBay - and you don't get charged any fees! I've ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS had good experiences buying and selling there!
Cool, another old thread brought back up! I'll vote and respond. It'd be nice to see who's who on here and on Ebay. I also think it's a cool idea to include your TB name when selling on the bay. As to me, my Ebay name and all the forums I've signed up for is the same name, which is my nickname. No need to "hide" behind different names. -Mike
I used to use eBay quite frequently to buy and sell, but since they've become FEEBay, I've lost all interest.
I see no real problem with listing your ebay name here, but that's up to the individual. I think I would have a problem with a link in a signature: we don't need to advertise for ebay. I also see no problem listing your Trainboard name on ebay, if you so desire. I really haven't thought about it in any depth, as I no longer visit ebay for model trains. It is still a good source for computer repair parts, power tools, and some photography equipment.
I prefer to keep separate things separate. No need to make it easy for people to build my profile. But that's just my personal opinion, others may do what they like.
