I used the single stall engine shed and the Atkinson engine facility from Rix to kitbash my version of the AD&N engine shed. Wall sections In progess It still needs some touch up work and painting.
Thanks, Mike It's 140 scale feet long. 10 5/8 " or 27 mm. Long enough for 2 GPs and a track bumper so I don't get carried away someday and bust out of the back wall.
Tad if you have room just make it a run through shed.BTW it looks great. I have plenty of the kits like that myself to someday kitbash my dream engine facility.
Thanks, Ed. The prototype isn't a run through shed and I don't have the room anyway. Here it is pretty much finished. Rear Office Section AD&N Maintenance of Equipment Office Now I need to get it planted on the layout.
That looks great Tad! Are you going to install some roof vents to allow the exhaust fumes to escape? I've only built one Rix kit so far but it was fun to build. Their peices are so very versitile and can be customized to just about any configuration. I'll bet a person could build a half dozen (or more) of the same kit and no two would look the same.
Looks great. I have been eyeing these kits up real heavy. Seeing is believing....now that I have seen your kit....I will have to nuts and build some in the future (need to get at least some benchwork up first....I am running out room to store the kits, rolling stock etc. )
Thanks y'all. It's nothing fancy, but neither is the prototype. It's not exactly like the real one, but I did try to pattern it after the prototype. The prototype that I patterned it after doesn't have roof vents. Prototype shed I do need to put them on the shop still. The engine shed will go to the left of the shop. That is what the other spur is for. Prototype Office
A bumper? That takes all the fun out of it! The building sure does look impressive. Really has a good feel for being large. Boxcab E50
I am sure there is a prototype for doing that. Nice building. I definately will be using that company some day.
Great job on the enginehouse, Tad. I've contacted the real AD&N several years ago (before the line was abandoned) and acquired a pamplet of the railroad for my collection. It was a very interesting operation. Robyn
Thanks, Gentlemen. Carolina Road, The pamphlet with AD&N 150, the SW1500, on front? I have one of those. I collect AD&N stuff and photos. Here is the prototype engine shed and shop. When the AD&N was merged into the AL&M they took the sign off of the shop. Here are my N scale versions in place on the layout.
Yes, IIRC, it was painted in the yellow and black (or was it dark green?) scheme. It was sad to see the line go, but with just one customer left (outside of the GP mill), the line would have withered anyway. For those that don't know, the only purpose for that trackage in later years was to access the former Missouri Pacific line at Monticello, AK for interchange, but since the UP merger and GP's acquistion of the Arkansas & Louisiana Missouri and Fordyce & Princeton, the original AD&M line had become less and less important. Robyn
Oh, Tad. I've meant to ask, but didn't the AD&M had a fleet of centerbeams as well? I think they were the "opera window" type and was painted in the same green color as the boxcars. Robyn
Thanks Y'all. The turnouts at the shop are Peco ST-4s and ST-5s. I'd love to have some CF-7s. If someone doesn't make some in N soon, I'm going to try to make a couple. I haven't started the sand towers yet. I have started gathering some pieces for them. Like this, Robyn?
Hi Tad, Yes, like that. I've seen one once about 8 years ago, but didn't know if it was a 60 or a 73 footer. The CF-7's will be a challenge in N scale. Someone had told me that the old Atlas/Kato GP7 is a good starting point for building one since the long hood on the CF-7 is shorter than a standard GP-7 and the Atlas/Kato model is close to it. The cab and nose will have to be fabercated though. Robyn
