Forgive me if this tip has already been posted. One thing that really makes our model train photos look fake is the lack of depth of field. In other words, too little of the image is in focus, most of it is out of focus. This is caused by the very narrow depth of field that occurs when focusing very close. Here is a technique I found you can use in photoshop to blend multiple images to get more depth of field in your images.
