Railcar with flammable acetone derails at Nampa, Idaho A rail car loaded with 28,000 gallons of highly flammable acetone came off the tracks in Nampa Sunday night and was dragged 1,400 feet by a locomotive before rolling on its side. But none of the volatile liquid leaked out and there was no explosion. Nampa Fire Battalion Chief Dave May says tank cars carrying such hazardous materials are designed to withstand most crashes and have several layers of protection. Union Pacific Railroad officials say they are working to repair damage to rails, ties and gravel ballast along the route to have train traffic restored as soon as possible Monday. - The Associated Press, KPVI-TV6, Pocatello/Blackfoot/Idaho Falls, ID
