I do not know why this was not on any of the major news, but on this past Monday, December 10th, 3 young boys were killed as they crossed the tracks in Morrisville Pa. The three gained access via an unlocked gate and obviously never heard the train coming. This was reported by Associated Press. Anyone on this board with kids, this would be a good idea to restress the dangers of playing near tracks should you live near them. Russ Hoffman Valley RR
This made the paper in IL.There were 2 other kids that jumped out of the way with them.I wondered how they got onto the tracks.I still can't possibly figure out how someone can't here a train comming.I guess after working on them for 5 years now I just have the whistle, bell, and sound of a train rolling in tune or something.Once again remember the train crew.Thye are the ones living with the horror of it all also.
Trains (and especially electric trains) travelling at high speed can get to you about half a second after their sound does - from experience, And as there aren't many (any?) grade crossings on the NEC I'm guessing they wouldn't be blowing their horns much compared to most of the US. They jumped a fence to get on the ROW... to they could have at least looked both ways, and the track isn't on a majorly sharp curve or anything like that, they should have seen it from at least 100 meters away. Dane
too bad they wouldn't have lived and been limbless so they could go show their friends and other peers of what stupidity causes!!!!!!!
