I have started to use acrylic paint and have tried both Poly S and Accuflex. So far so good. They have sprayed well and I am very pleased with the results.

My wife is even more pleased with the lack of smell:)

However, when I used the Accuflex flat cote it sprayed OK but the finish was more like a faded effect. It was not a nice clear and flat cote like Floquil but has an almost frosted look to it. Fine if I really want a weathered effect but not do good if I don't.

I airbrush in a warm room and have an extractor booth. Is this effect normal or am I doing something wrong. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks.

    Regards,
    David

    DBean:

The effect is normal. Jason from Sydney told me this...but:

Use the satin Accuflex for the final coat of paint. The flat Accuflex gives the murky finish. Also, too much air or drying too fast will make even the satin have a "white chip" finish. I think Jason is correct about all this.

In my case, I had to strip the model and start over. You might be able to weather your way out of it. (One of my favorite solutions to errors!) [IMG]

Hope this helps; I am sure Jason can post more details.

Hi David- That's exactly why I still use Floquil Flat Finish over the ModelFlex. I use ModelFlex for 95 percent of my painting and even weather with it. But I don't like ANY of their clear coats.

Flash and Chuck:- Many thanks for the help. I will look elsewhere for flat varnish. Glad it wasn't just me.

I woud prefer an acrylic one now that I have decided to go down that road,as it were!

    David

i use the accuflex satin for most newer paint, and their flat for older cars, engines and sooty areas. i also use testers acryl flat for areas that need to remain black.
