Is there a way to put together a KATO AC4400CW with ditchlights below the walkway without drilling holes and using fiber optics? Maybe a walkway from a 9-44CW? I didnt see a part number for walkway on the AC4400CW? Thanks Dave T
One of the AC4400CW versions Kato made was the early version for CNW and CSX and has low ditchlights.
Thank you very much. I did not research this far enough. Now if I can find someone that will do the decals? Microscale says they have no plans at this time to do them?? Ferromex Dave T
Since you mention Ferromex now, it does indeed look like the Kato CNW version of the 4400 is a good match for the Ferromex units, and they should still be available. Proto photo: http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=32015 Model: http://www.katousa.com/N/AC4400CW/CNW.jpg (UP 9997 uses the same body.) If you care, you could also get steerable trucks from Kato Parts. RE decals, there was a thread here not too long ago that might give you a lead: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?138074-Ferromex-decals
I havent been able to get ahold of the guy that did the SD70ACE! Steerable trucks will be a must. I think Kato 176-7030 would work as well. Kato said there were no plans so I will try and do myself. Thanks Gary. Dave t
Even if Kato had plans to make them I'm sure that would be kept top secret until they're ready to announce them. IMHO I really don't think that kato will do them but if they did I'd sure get one.
I didn't even notice the undec 176-7030. You might want to check that it's the same unit as the CNW/UP, but it probably is, since those are numbered -7031/2/3. (The CP unit is also listed as Low NB, Beveled Cab, but it has 2 DB vents and high ditch lights.) I would definitely buy a Ferromex unit too. But I don't want one badly enough to scour the Earth for custom decals. I wouldn't be shocked, if Kato offered it (but I would be surprised). After all, it is colorful, and they have all the components they need to do it correctly.
