So, I was driving around Vancouver Wa this moning and I caught a Unit grain train with two Dash 9s with an AC4400 sandwiched in between.

Why did that power get put in there? Are these units roving system wide or are they like the MACs sticking close to Powder River?

Also, UP has had at least one true 90MAC (angled roof and everything) loitering around Portland and I've seen it sitting out in BNSF's Portland yard and in the Vancouver yard usually with some 9043s or GE ACs from UP, CEFX and CP. Is BNSF testing these out, or are they just set out from Unit Grain duty? These were older 90MACs with the older style cabs.

There is an article in the March 2004 issue of Trains magazine about the 4400's that you may want to check out. May have what you're looking for!
