Hi All; This is my first post to the group, having 'lurked' for a world record time, reading many of the topics with great interest, learning a lot but not really being able to contribute much in return myself. Today, though I've been to an N Scale US Outline only show here in the UK, where Alan had a stand to sell his wares ( I think the first time he's done a 'live show'? - he will correct me if I'm wrong). On the stand (apart from selling his kits - and his latest 'variation' is excellent), he had some of the made-up/painted/decaled models that he displays on his website Believe me they are excellent - the rebar flat car and the QTTX were particularly impressive. Just a thank you Alan, and keep up the good work - they must be good if they've forced me into sending a message to the group. Who knows I may even send some more! Thanks to all for your informative and entertaining posts. David Milburn Modelling the BNSF Mendota Sub North Yorkshire, UK
David, Welcome aboard. You speak as if you are a Spy who came in out of the Cold .... having "lurked" in the shadows for such a long time. Glad to have you here!
David, No need to be shy here. As you dash to see who has responded to this post, you will discover that it is even more fun to post, than to just read. Posting is a funny thing. Sometimes you will work hard on an idea and post, and no one will respond. The first time that happened to me, my nose was a little out of joint. Now I know, it just happens sometimes. Other times, you will start a thread that was given very little thought and concern and many relate to it. Every once in a blue moon you will get flack over something you said. However, in all the forums I have posted to since being on the net, I would say that I have had about three big negatives in literally many, many thousands of posts on the net. Might as well join in on our large, multi-nation, forums and participate, you will find it more fun than just reading. I don't know where you are at in the hobby, - new or a long time - but even a new person can start interesting threads like: 1) Where is your favourite railfan location 2) How many tracks across can I get in a foot wide section in N scale? 3) Can I use a computer with DCC? 4) Is DCC worth having? 5) What's your favourite steam engine? 6) Do I have to chose an era to have fun in model railroading. etc, etc. So join in on the fun. Watching a sport is fun, playing a sport is more fun.
We had a great time today at the first ever UK all-N scale show. It was good to meet old friends (like David) and get to know many more. The show had good quality layouts and a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. When I learned that David had been a member here for a year, but so far had not posted, I actually had to order him to do so So David, now you have your own flashing NEW logo Welcome aboard!
Forgot to post these photos of our stand display Yes, that is Matt behind his Curtis Hobbies ready to run models Note the stacks of blue boxes behind the stand!
That "stack of blue boxes" looks VERY familiar....much like the stack out in my shop right now! I really need to finish up some of these projects! Russ
David, I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit about your layout (I'm assuming it's the Mendota Sub in Illinois). I am from that part of the country, and would enjoy reading about it. Shaun
Been noticing the Con Cor fuel Foilers are getting common on ebay lately. HMMM... is everybody dumping them in favor of Alan and Matt's new cars? I even scrapped my Con Cor Fuel Foiler upgrade project. (I used the N scale of Nevada upgrade kit on it) All it needs is paint. It too will probablly end up in the "bay". http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1721268554 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1721268554 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1721268554 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1721522268 Brian
Brian, my Con-Cor "fuel foiler" is languishing in a box somewhere. I gave up on it, and decided to make my own cars, which started my N Scale business, so I guess I should thank Con-Cor for getting me going
allen just was at your site great models use to pull them trailers and containers off the rail head all the time aalot of work but no pay,so whats a pound in us dollars like to order some of your condolas
Hello Rich, on my website order form is a link to a currency converter, which gives current rates. Right now it is showing one pound=$1.44. The rate is quite stable, so should not change much.
