It appears that CP has not seen fit to apply the Golden Rodent logo to recent units. I have seen several GEVO units without it and recently SD40-2 5690 returned from rebuild without it. What's up?
I have not heard anything but maybe they are thinking about using the D&H Logo and get rid of the Golden Rat. :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:
Actually the golden beaver logo doesn't fit on the ES44ACs, the huge Radiator assembly is in the way. The Beaver also doesn't fit on the rebuilt GP9 or SW1200 yard engines. DC
The official emblem of Canada I hope you will take this "tongue in cheek".:teeth: Like the Bald Eagle the great emblem of the United States of America, the Beaver is the official emblem of Canada. The beaver attained official status as an emblem of Canada when an "act to provide for the recognition of the beaver (castor canadensis) as a symbol of the sovereignty of Canada" received royal assent on March 24, 1975. Did you know the Beaver is also the official emblem of the great state of Oregon. The Beaver has been enshrined in Canadian history since 1621 When the term rat is used it has other not so pleasant connotations.Yes the beaver is part of the rodent family as is a rat, and I am sure that due to dam building and other activities some individuals would get rid of the Beaver. Still I think the term the "Golden Beaver" is much more enduring and respectful than RAT or RODENT. Just my two cents worth.:zip:
A smaller shield logo was used on the side of the cab. http://www.niagararails.com/cgi-bin/rosters1.cgi?/rosters/cp/1500/1518cp.jpg
Owen, The Bald Eagle isn't much more than a handsome vulture, very much a cousin to the ugly Turkey Vulture. Both can be predators. I've seen Turkey Vultures swoop and grab goldfish out of my pond--good for them! Beavers are a nuisance in some parts of the U.S., like New Mexico. That they are rodents never bothered me. I think "rat" has become to be associated with "Norway rat" here in the U.S. I wonder how the Norwegians feel?mg: It's the common wharf rat, which can be the size of a small cat. Absolutely vicious animals if cornered, and the carrier of the Plague in Europe. Actually it was the fleas on the rat, but the species has been stigmatized for at least 3000 years. Aren't fuzzy squirrels really rats, and adorable chipmunks just mice? Here we call our squirrels "ground rats." All in good fun! Ben Franklin wanted the wild turkey as our national bird. He was outvoted.
