Union Pacific Railroad Company -Abandonment Exemption- in Malheur County, OR http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/712267 Oct 17, 2007 (Transportation Department Documents and Publications/ ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- Union Pacific Railroad Company (UP) has filed a notice of exemption under 49 CFR 1152 Subpart F--Exempt Abandonments to abandon a 9.4-mile line of railroad known as the Homedale Industrial Lead, extending from milepost 2.0 near Nyssa to milepost 11.4 near Adrian, in Malheur County, OR. The line traverses United States Postal Service Zip Code 97901.
No. The O&NW went between Burns and Seneca, so it would be roughly 105 miles west of the line to be abandoned. It connected with the UP Burns Branch, now part of the Wyoming & Colorado Railroad, and it operates out of Ontario. This line (the Homedale Lead) begins in Nyssa (about 10 miles south of Ontario) and heads south to Adrian. I don't know what the hertiage of this line is, however; but that it is NOT part of the O&NW or the Burns Branch.
I believe that is correct. This is another one of those cases where I just wish I would hit the lottery. I could buy this and the Mt. Hood Railroad and the Bailey Branch and the Coos Bay line and run excursions on the Astoria line and return excursion service to the Port of Tillamook Bay and turn it all into Foamer Heaven!
This line is definatly NOT part of the Oregon & Northwestern. The O&NW was completely pulled up about ten or more years ago. The line might be part of the Burns Branch most of which has also been pulled up.
Sorry, folks. I didn't phrase my initial response very well. I know it's not actually O&NW trackage. Looking at a map, I can see I had the wrong branch in mind. :tb-ooh: Boxcab E50
