A rarity for it's day..a Santa Fe B23-7 (#6396) on the point of a train heading towards tunnel #2 near Bealville (Tehachapi). These units were mostly based in Texas area...but did occasionally visit us here in SoCal.
Looking at that pic now...you can see how the paint has faded on them, some more then others...much like my Nscale fleet of ATSF units...from 3 different manufacturers...all of the paint schemes vary that much...
That SD-45 in the background looks freshly painted or in a shadow. It's the only one that doesn't look faded and looks spoton in color. That's an interesting powermix in general. Looks like a GP20 behind the B23, the 45 and then some other EMD.
This was a lively bunch...the SD-45's were rebuilt down at San Bernardino during the 80's so that is why is looks recently painted (edumacated guess ). I forgot the year I took this pic...I am guessing early 90's. Below is a pic of a SD-45 in process of being rebuilt..in it's primer color, new A/C unit and winterization hatches, down at the San Berdoo shops in June of '83. [ 29. Without any BNSF relettering, to boot. Interesting power consist......that lead unit gives me an idea for that Bachmann B23-7 shell I have laying around........
