Who makes... I am looking for just one figure, to glue on the platform of a small depot, representing the agent/operator/telegrapher doing a roll-by. I do NOT want the all too common caricature type, in the uniform, or suit and tie and usually incorrectly called (ugh) a "station master." I'd wish to find the person I recall from a few decades back, at the smaller town agency or train order office. Someone wearing slacks or blue jeans, a short sleeved button shirt and maybe even a baseball cap. These are the guys I knew and respected, a bit more casual, but neat and professional. Any ideas?
I don't have a specific answer, but yes an idea or thought. You probably have thought of it too, but I'm sure I have seen such a figure in some of the many WS figure sets, and no, it wasn't any sort of railroad 'caricature' type but dressed like you describe. Possible a look through the full Walther's catalog might turn such a figure up?
I did spend some time last evening, looking at Woodland Scenics, but did not see what I was after in their items. Of course by that time of night, I was getting a bit blurry eyed and could have overlooked someting usable.
Every so often, I imagine I am a movie studio casting director, and stage a "casting call" though my boxes and sprues of unassigned figures. I have a mental list of a few dozen "types" or "roles" I would like to cast, and I look through dozens of figures, asking myself, which one could fit a certain role either as is or with a slight modification of paint. A commuter station scene of couples embracing while meeting or parting can become couples on a dance floor. Ten identical very thin slightly undersized girl in swimsuit figures, figures you would not expect to find in such identical looks in a random beach scene, become a class of dance school students waiting to be picked up by mothers. Your operator/ agent might be in a set of workers, or miscellaneous standing figures, or... Don't expect to find it labeled as exactly what you are looking for.
That's exactly why I was asking. Hoping someone would recall seeing something similar to my description, in a non-related set.
This is going to bug me now, like one of those things like "what is that actor's name" or "who sang that song". Now I need to find that guy!
I think I have him buried away in a box... It was by the Germans, I think Preiser. Best of luck finding him. I'm still looking for honiestly protrayed black porters in HO. Right now all my figure look like something out of the Stepford Wives which is a little creepy.
Hmmm. Well, I'll try looking through their stuff. If you happen to find yours, or think of a part number, or...? Please let me know.
Boxcab - I have the 2013 Preiser catalogue, and I think I may have found 4 figures that are included in their ready painted- - not sure where will be the best place for you to order them from though - that may solve your problem - PM me with your email addy and I will scan and send you pictures the ones that I think will be what you want - I don't want to put them on here for copyright reasons Jack
Just a thought.....You might find something on eBay too! And by narrowing the search parameters it might not take as long as you think. Jim
I have just found pictures on line http://www.gaugemaster.com/search_r...yle=&andor=&method=kws&strType=#8 10022 - 2nd from right 10019 - 3rd from right 10284 - fat man on left 14022 - 2nd from right There are others in unpainted figures - but there are so many, that it becomes difficult to identify specific ones
Glad to have helped - hope that you are successfull in finding them - may be worth looking on Ebay.de and using Google translate if necessary - which is what I do! Best Jack
I think 14022 is the one I have. I ordered a ton if Preiser figures a while back. My wife has a preference the them.
It might be possible to perform some surgery on a figure or two to get the pose you want. I know that happens frequently on the British 4mm scene.
True. I had thought about that, but wanted to try this route first. My hands do not function well these days, so alterations might be very frustrating.
Same site, but in a single, depending on the season, I kinda like 28032 for the job as well, its listed as "trucker" and I can't quite make out what the figure is doing with his hands, but he's a casual dressy and has a vest like it san early spring or Fall outside.
Hey. That is a good one. I personally know a former agent/operator who dressed just like the photo, daily. If I could find one with a raised hand, as if waving, so much the better. The figure would then look like he's tossing a highball.
