Without being completely sappy, I would like to thank each member of this board for your help.
To explain, I will tell you a bit about myself.

I am a 57 year old attorney in New York. My electrical and mechanical knowledge and acumen are both nil. My previous modeling reached it's apex when I was 14 and assembled the "Cutty Sark" (without proper rigging but with a lot of glue gobs).

When my daughter, now thirty, was five, I tried to make one of the N layouts in the second Atlas trackplan book. I got to a certain point with the wiring, completed the trackwork, and then screwed up the wiring and the layout was dismantled.

My non-legal education did not flourish thereafter. However, I never lost my desire to model in N scale (chosen for more bang per square foot). Now, 25 years later, I started anew. I scrupulously followed the N-18 plan. I never even built a tie rack before that. Doing the table and benchwork (no wobbles first try, by the way) did me proud. I received encouragement from various people on the Atlas boards - many of you who post(ed) there as well as here. I read the boards and picked up tips from you. I managed to construct the trackwork (now being fixed) and started the scenery. I listened to you all. I copies techniques. I improvised a bit and am now able to actually give a bit of advice on weathering. Not bad for doing this for nine months, I think.
Any time I have asked a question here (or there), I have received fast, accurate answers and support. Nolan and Flash have been inspirations. Powersteamguy and others have provided me with technical instructions and "fixes".
The latest was from Gats who got me over the hump of opening up a chassis to get rid of ballast that made my RS-1 unusable. Yesterday or the day before, accurate advice on "how to" change traction tires and answers to what must seem to be for many of you, dumb questions.

Thank you, again, for providing me with the support I needed, still need and will need to help me spend my leisure time in this hobby.

Gats- I did what you instructed and it works fine.

Very nice of you to post this, Mark. I think it is safe to say - thank you from us all. [IMG]
Forums like this is what it is about - knowledge and advice, and a little ribbing thrown in to boot!

Good to hear you successfully performed open chassis surgey on the RS-1. Now you can add surgeon to your modelling resume! :D

Right, now you mention you're an attorney, should we be more careful with our advice, less it proved flawed? [IMG]

    Gats-

Worry not. I leave the hardass posturing at the office and use N scale as a haven from work.

Great, now how am I going to top that when it is _my_ turn to say thanks? You are making it real tough on us who follow you. < The Grey Gryphin Gryns >

Coul you can help ma a little please. In a couple of your pictures there is a very small yellow deisel. That would be ideal for my SVRR.
    What is it?
    Are they still available?
    How well does it run?

    Thanks in advance.

It is a Bachmann Spectrum Plymouth diesel which may be had from $16-$18 depending which on line vendor you choose.
It takes turnouts better than the usual tank switchers, IMHO.

I was told a long time ago that the only dumb question is the one not asked. This isn't to say you won't find someone with a severe case of H.U.B. disease who will take you to task for askin such a question, but on THIS forum we're pretty much a patient lot, and will answer them as many times as needed.

None of us have a monopoly on knowledge, and the one aspect of this hobby I enjoy is the sharing of knowledge. I've been in this hobby for 32 years, and I STILL pick up all sorts of tricks & tips.

(H.U.B. = well, let's just say such a person is afflicted with a dark, stinky outlook on life, and leave it at that [IMG] )

I have been in this hobby for 42 years, and am still asking questions and getting sound answers from the good folk on this board [IMG]

There is no such thing as a dumb question. If it needs asking it also needs an answer so cannot be dumb ;)

Well for me this is what this forum is all about, I also have gained so much help by ask questions and will continue to do so. I have also made some great friends on here and that to me is very important as well.

    Mark:

You should always ask questions. That's the only way to learn.. That's what a forum is all about whether large or small.

    There is "no stupid question"...

Stay cool and ask questions... [IMG]
