I was thinking the other day, I don't see many (or few) model railroads modeling the MILW Pacific Extension. I believe this too be lack of affordable power along the lines of Little Joes, quills or Boxcabs. If an affordable, ($100-300) Little Joe (or other electric) was produced (Z, N or HO), would you be modeling the Milw PCE? If so, what territory and scale?
There are some layouts of Lines West. Those I see, tend to be non-electric. Some sort of branch theme. Or a post-electrified era. Myself, I'd wish for Boxcabs, in N scale. (Boxcabs? Imagine that!) They were the most numerous. And some lasted quite late. But, with present finances, probably would be out of the market for now. Boxcab E50
My layout depicts the Haugan-Plummer Junction section of the PCE in N scale. Primary power are the SD40-2s, and the period is post-electrification, post-bankruptcy. As such, Little Joes won't really fit. Besides, I have one brass LJ - although to make it go I'd have to convert it to DCC. If someone made the LJs in plastic, I'd be considering using them, though. -2's, some U-boats, a couple sd45's, and even thinking about getting a fp45 and repainting it to orange/black. Modeling the mid to late 70's. correction, just looked on athearn site, they're coming out with a black/orange fp45 early next year. nice.
Some N scale Boxcabs would look great on Greg's several modules! Especially that Beverly Bridge project. Boxcab E50
I am modeling the Milwaukee in Wisconsin so they would do me no good. Although one on the shelf would be nice!!
C'mon, Andy- Give in! String some catenary over your yard. Trolley poles would look great through Tunnel City...! Boxcab E50
I have in Z-scale, the Micro Trains GP9 in MILW, along with an F9B,(still gotta' get a A-unit!), and slowly collecting boxcars, etc. I've seen a few European boxcabs that might pass,(with a few mods), for MILW cabs.
I just learned that one O scale with working catenary layout has fallen. A gentleman from Moses Lake downsized his house, and the layout went away. He had a bunch of boxcabs and steeplecabs, among diesels, for power.
