After the slightly disappointing performance of the Black V 4-6-0 on the 'Lakelander' excursion a couple of weeks ago ( see the thread 'not a good weekend for U.K steam') Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48151 made a much better job of it today. An old favourite on the Cumbrian coast line it charged through Lindal in Furness and Askam in Furness under heavy skies northbound but the weather cleared nicely for the return leg. The driver took it relatively calmy through Askam southbound as he was booked for a 10 minute stop at Dalton junction a couple of miles further on but this meant he had to attack the bank at Dalton from a standing start. Terriffic video Kev! Things that in my youth were commonplace are now very special. I bet Stanier never thought 8F's would be used on passenger trains at those speeds!
