I recently discovered this photograph on the internet and I couldn't help but sharing it. As bridge collapses go, I don't think I have ever seen one quite like this. Not sure as to the cause of the collapse, but the photo description does a nice job of telling everything else.
Wow. I wonder how they cleaned that up? I wonder if this is listed in ICC accident reports, as the conclusions would be rather interesting reading. This must have been a swing bridge at one time.
The caption reads "Two locomotives...toppled into the river". I see one on the ground and the other floating in the air. Based on the one car that is in the water, the water does not appear very deep there. Where are the stated locomotives and several cars that went into the water? They float down stream? Even in 1970 the news could not get the facts right even with the evidence right in front of them. Gary
That was the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw it. Can you imagine being the foreman of the wreck crew when he first laid eyes on that scene?
Sad and true. What is it they smoke in the back room? Or do they simply hire based on ability to create fiction? I'm surprised they didn't mention that Martian space craft seen hovering nearby, just before the accident.
