I caught a "pumpkin" today in my travels (among other things that I plan to post as soon as the TrainWeb site comes back up) It is not the best shot, but I went thru a lot to get it: http://hodnett.homestead.com/files/CSXT9724.jpg Chessie ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! I goning to give it a shot #9724 is a GP40 I've got great pictures of #9660 (GP38) in nmy hometown and # 9728 (GP40) also in my home town. the last I heard, CSX is going to getrid or all of the GP40's because they are in high demand for rebuilds. ------------------ Appalachian & Atlantic Model Railroad "QUALITY at WORK with SAFTEY in MIND"
Is that unit missing the DB fan? A rebuild without DB but still has the housing? When i first saw "A pumpkin!" i was expecting something labeled BNSF...

CSX retired almost (if not all, by now) of their non Dash-2 products. But they still live on in rebuilds for other roads in various forms! All "pumpkins" were made from UNrebuilt units, so I guess they knew they wouldn't need DB's working in MOW service, so removed the fan. A pumpkin? Ahh, a MOW CSX loco. Never heard 'em called that, but the name fits. There is a pumpkin at the B&O RR Museum in Baltimore, MD. I believe this was mentioned in a previous TRAINS magazine. I have seen it in Sept. during a vacation. Also there is a CSX MOW Athearn Special Edition set that features a CSX MOW loco & MOW caboose. jai
