Since I started working here in Muskogee, I've been staying at a local motel, paying weekly rates. Even though it's a clean, cheap place (no rent-by-the-hour fleabag this), the rates were eating my lunch. Plus, I miss the opportunity of actually cooking as opposed to nuking my meals.

Well, last week I put a deposit down on a studio apartment here in town. It's a pretty decent-sized place, with a good-sized walk-in closet (can you say small train room?). I just need to score some cheap used furniture for the living space & bedroom area, and I'm in good shape.

I move in mext week, and over the next 10 days, interspersed with lots of oddball work hours and my son's high school graduation, I'll be moving most of my stuff, railroad & otherwise, to Muskogee. This does not mean the wife and I have divorced- we have one son left in school, and we would like him to graduate next year from Sherman High School. After that, she'll move up here with me, and we'll get a bigger place.

Hopefully with the space I can allot out for the HCD layout, I can get back to work in the railroad, which has sufferd from neglect, deferred maintenance, and occasional visits from the cat.

Net access will be limited to what I can get at work until I have service turned on at my new place. Fortunately, with my monthly rent, electric bill and cable TV/Internet service, I'll still come out ahead in the money department. More money to send home, and a little bit to spend at Challenger N Scale.......

See the local Salvation Army store. The furniture is inexpensive. When you are ready to leave, call them and they will pick it up as a donation thus giving you a tax deduction on your original purchase.

Hope it works out. maybe you can railfan a little, too.

Same goes for Goodwill Industries. Should be not much of a problem getting what you need. :)

One step ahead of ya- I've been checking out Salvation Army (no Goodwill store here in Muskogee) for cheap furniture. Of course, when I get back to Sherman this Monday, I'll check out the Goodwill store there.

As for railfanning, check out my Wagoner Railfanning and Green Country Railfanning albums in Rail Images :D

Well, I moved in to my new apartment, and for a studio it's more the size of a small 1-bedroom. The walk-in closet looks like it'll have enough space for my HCD layout, and still hang my clothes (on a separate rod).

Hmm, wonder if that makes me a closet model railroader?

Be wary of being seen coming out of the closet... ;)

Have you thought about your wife's clothes hanging needs? If it's anything like mine, I recommend getting in first with a near completed layout just in case. :)

This apartment is mine and mine alone, and is temporary until she can move up here next year. As for clothes, she's got enough in the closet, her dresser, in boxes, totes and baskets to open her own shop. And she gets on ME for my small wordrobe (I'm not a clothes horse) :D

As it is, my HCD layout will fit in the back of the closet nicely, leaving plenty of space for clothes (mine) to be hung in.
