I am buying out a large quantity of equipment, 200 freight cars, locos etc. Much is new in box. I plan on retaining the usable stock for my road and reselling the rest. Is there any place I can get values for this material. I am not looking to make a big profit, but i would like to get something out of it. I will post again when I have the material in hand. If all goes well, I may do some more buying and selling.
I suppose that at least some value would be based upon which manufacturers items are included. There is always that one large Internet auction site, however, prices there can fluctuate a lot. Boxcab E50
I've done this a few times and done fairly well buying a "lot" of athearn BB kits or roundhouse kits. I keep what I want and sell what I don't and usually come out better than if I had just bought each piece individually.
KOKORACEGUY, You could sit down with a Model Railroad magazine, and copy the retail prices for the rolling stock you have on hand. We have even used "Post-it-Notes" for auction sales, successfully because they wont mar the box surface when removed. I t all depends on the condition, and appearance, but wise buyers will want to know details about broken or missing parts, and you better be honest! Word gets around fast.
Also try Bonanzle (Bonanzle :: Your destination for everything but the ordinary). Cheap and easy, much better than Ebay. Works for me!
