In February 2023, I posted these pictures of a caboose we encountered on a trip home from Saginaw. At the time, I had no idea where this caboose had come from or where it was going, but recently figured it out. Turns out it's been hiding in plain sight underneath a coat of blue paint and a different number, having been restored to its appearance after a 1970 rebuild and prior to being repainted into Chessie livery. Built in 1941, it was painted the standard C&O red for many years and eventually painted yellow, probably sometime in the late 50's or early 60's. It was retired in 1986. This story has a really good ending as It's now part of the collection at the Steam Railroading institute at Owosso. More here: https://michigansteamtrain.com/equipment/#tab-a72f6be8ed35786c3d6
Good to see it has a new home where it will be well taken care of, restored to its original condition.
