For those of you not on the N Scale List who have an interest in modeling the present, you may wish to take a look at my scratchbuilt Amoco gas station. I've made two additional improvements that are not yet shown on the site: tank filler covers and a small satellite dish on the roof. I'll try to get photos of these changes up if I can find time. It's on my web site, follow the gas station link. N Scale Modeling By Jim Reising Happy Modeling, Jim
Very cool! Will you be adding the man-hole covers for the under-ground storage tanks, and of course lot's of oil stains on the concrete? I like the vacuum unit, and the modern fuel prices too! Very good work...
Yeah, Ed, I've added the covers although they're too small to be called manhole covers. Dunno about grease stains, tho...I know they're needed, but I think I'll leave it pristine for the moment. I hope to get fresh pix up soon....
Good work Jim! Good to see more of your layout. Wish I had space for more non-railroad items. I envy the gas prices on your station
I agree with Ten87, the current fuel prices just finishes it off! Good work Jim! Russ/NYC The Hoffman Valley Railroad NARA member#28
OK, horrible secret revealed....the prices on the sign are about a year old....current prices are about fifteen cents down from those on the sign. And for those of you who haven't looked since Saturday early afternoon Chicago time, I put up three more pix, showing the "interior" a bit better, and the filler holes, and the street sign and satellite dish I just built. Now seriously contemplating a cell tower...
Jim Way way K E W L Mini-scenes help so much to set the scene for a layout...... We're running $1.399/gal for 87 octane unleaded here at the Arco AM-PM in sunny AZ Exxon $1.439..Chevron $1.439..Texaco $1.419 About 20 cents more a gallon in Southern California, yet our gasoline comes by pipeline from Southern California...go figure.... eNjoy Don B
Good work Jim, scratchbuilding gives us so much freedom and I admire anyone who makes the effort to do so. Did you make your sign with decals or are they computer generated?
Jim, WOW! That is one nice gas station. The details really make it look great. Very nice work. For those of you paying the high gas prices, sorry. Regular unleaded is $1.20 and Super is $1.40 at the Amoco I stop at on my way to work.(metro Atlanta). Even worse, I bought super unleaded for $1.30 at a station about half way between here and Chattanooga TN last night. Well better quit now before Alan gets too sick.
2 thumbs up, Jim! I'm just glad gas isn't that pricey here in Mint, ND. ALTHOUGH, last winter they got to $2.09/gal for regular... Yikes. That Amoco station was sure sweet!!!!!! Great Job!!!
Great work Jim! I really like your site and have admired your work ever since I first saw it. Keep it up you are a source of inspiration for other modelers. Bryan
For Robin..The signs were done photographically...I took the picture, manipulated the result in MS Photodraw, then experimented and sized to fit and printed on a 1440 dpi Epson 740, glossy paper. Then after printing, I cut out the images and glued them to appropriate styrene shapes using my adhesive of choice, silicon sealer. For everyone, I neglected to tell you about that white fence...it's made from HandiWipes, painted and cut to size. The satellite dish started life as a ping-pong ball (for the curvature) cut to size. Also for everyone: Thank you all for your support and kind words.
