    USA: To meet the winter maintenance and summer roadbed re-profiling requirements of two US railways, Harsco Rail has introduced an updated version of its Spreader-Ditcher, a versatile machine originally designed in the 1960s which can be used to spread ballast, cut trackside ditches and as a snow plough.It is equipped with a control cab, front plough, side wings, AAR couplers, and an auxiliary power unit for electrical/hydraulic power. The two bogies are unpowered, with the vehicle being propelled by a locomotive when in use. This latest version includes options such as in-cab locomotive controls, hydraulic locks, insulated walkways, heated windows, train line air brake controls and safety windows which can be used for emergency egress. l
