Well today I didnt get to witness it but a CSX Detour coming down the Louisville & Indiana line and was coming right past my house and my mom heard a weird noise so she looked out the window and there was some electric poles laying in the road and she walked out and some Double stacks came threw and caught an electric line and pulled alot of poles down threw town. I dunno maybe 8 poles. Well they ended up evactuating the area due to electric lines and unfortunatly I didnt get to witness it cause I was at work.

Eek! Glad your mom was not hurt! It's dangerous to go outside, unless the power company has arrived, and certified the lines down are all shut off.

Sounds like someone didn't have the right info on clearances, to send that train out. The RR will likely soon receive a bill for repairs.

Well they have ran double threw here before. Im not sure but my thinking is it was cool at the begining of the week and in like 1 day the temp rose 20 degrees. So maybe it just made the lines slcak

Hmmm. interesting. Well, I guess we'll need to wait. Perhaps you can catch a section man, or someone from the power company. Ask them how it happened?

    Bill from PSI:

    New power poles--$30,000+
    New lines--$40,000+

A notice from the FRA saying check for clearance next time--PRICELESS.

As someone who has worked on the railroad(signal maintainer) and for a utility(A.T.&T.) my guess is the utility is at fault. There are rules about how high the minimum cleareances are for all utilities for just such a reason. Not to mention trying to get money out of a railroad.

Hmmm. You're probably right! Utilities crossing over, or under a railroad right-of-way, would likely need an easement to do so. And the utility would need to conform to RR requirements.
