A good N scale voltage meter?

Lately I've been needing a basic voltage/amp meter, but all the ones I see dont have gentle-enough alligator clips for the small items in N scale (too much gripping power in the springs, and the gator clips would definately leave mars/marks/dents/etc).

Anyone have inputs as to brands I should/ should not be looking at?

I purchased a package of six or so from Radio Shack. They are small and have a different color cover protecting the jaws of the clip. I had to provide my own wire.

To clarify, I attached all this to my own voltmeter/ammeter. My difficulty was finding a nice guage that would only read five amps or so.

Would you be looking for one calibrated in N-scale Volts??

    (sorry)

    Mike:

I made mine from the N Trak how to book on electronics several years ago. It is easy to do and I got to learn a little about electrons. All you do is connect the final product in series with the transformer. When I get home on Saturday night, I will try to post a picture and find some more info.

I was thinking something more perminent - or at least "plug-in-able" when I'm running - at this point, only 3 trains have been run simultaneously so I'm not concerned, just more curious.

Would filing the teath off of the gator clips work?
