A friend sent me this link so I'm passing it along to my friends here on trainboard. http://www.cnn.com/2005/TRAVEL/DESTINATIONS/08/10/georgia.train.ap/index.html
Interesting! Wasn't aware such a site existed. Maybe there's a TrainBoard member in that area, who can check it out more closely for us. Boxcab E50
8 hours is nothing for us westerners. Denver is about 10 hours from KC and even more from any other big place of interest. I suppose that's why I tend to head to NM most of the time. Santa fe is only 6 hours away.
I haven't been since it is also ~ 8 hours away... I hope to get there sometime within the next year... I think it is a great idea as a "tourist" destination or similar attraction... I wish they'd do the same at Hamlet (NC) at the site of the moved and renovated passenger station. Harold
AWESOME little town. Folkston is like Mayberry. Everyone drives by and waves. Viewing platfrom has scanner and celling fans, town just put in a public restroom by the platform. And the train traffic is great about 50-60 trains a day. Here's a few likes to some of my photos from there: http://trains.nordicus.net/csx.html http://trains.nordicus.net/misc.html http://trains.nordicus.net/update03062005.html Definatly worth a detour off of 95 if your coming to Florida.
