What ever happened to a company named the Chicago & Western Indiana RR? I'm thinking somebody absorbed it's operations. But who? When?

    Jim-

But what happened to the C&WI? I have train orders from at least the 1960's for them. They used to be shown in the Official Guide. But are no longer shown there. Were they absorbed into the parent company?

CHICAGO & WESTERN INDIANA RAILROAD. The main line of this road extends from Chicago to Dolton, Ill. (17 miles), and affords terminal facilities for all lines entering the Polk St. Depot at Chicago. It has branches to Hammond, Ind. (10.28 miles); to Cragin (15.9 miles), and to South Chicago (5.41 miles); making the direct mileage of its branches 48.59 miles. In addition, its second, third and fourth tracks and sidings increase the mileage to 204.79 miles. The company was organized June 9, 1879; the road opened in 1880, and, on Jan. 26, 1882, consolidated with the South Chicago & Western Indiana Railroad Company, and the Chicago & Western Indiana Belt Railway. It also owns some 850 acres in fee in Chicago, including wharf property on the Chicago River, right of way, switch and transfer yards, depots, the Indiana grain elevator, etc. he elevator and the Belt Division are leased to the Belt Railway Company of Chicago, and the rest of the property is leased conjointly by the Chicago & Eastern Illinois, the Chicago & Grand Trunk, the Chicago & Erie, the Louisville, New Albany & Chicago, and the Wabash Railways of which owns $1,000,000 of the capital oak), and by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe. These companies pay the expense of operation and maintenance on a mileage basis.----http://www.iltrails.org/cook/railroads.html.

This information makes me believe that the C&WI was absorbed by C&EI (Chicago & Eastern Illinois). Dearboarn Station was closed at the birth of Amtrak. C&EI then became part of the UP with the Dolton-Chicgo line being is first access into the city. If any of this info is wrong, please correct.

Been working, trying to get my Real Estate Business Started, got married, and other than that just surviving! Very little time for trains lately, which is to bad, but I have been trying to help out with the Bellingham Railway Museum. www.bellinghamrailwaymuseum.org

    Congrats on the marriage!

Interesting site. Will explore it more this evening! Did you ever meet Al Currier? Is he involved? Have you submitted a link for BRM to Railseek.com? If not, please do!

Hope you'll have a few minutes to stop by, and say hi here. Was wondering where you had gone!

Thanks! We are doing well, the first year is always the hardest. Yes I have met Al, he is involved with the museum to a point, but he is so busy that you need to Activate Lo jack to find him [IMG] He is a great guy and hopefully he'll slow down a bit and enjoy the museum.

    Al Currier

Boxcab, I just ran across this post and wanted to tell you, Al Currier suffered a heartattack earlier this year (around May). He was out jogging and about 30 minutes later (as far as we can tell) he was found flat on the sidewalk by a passer by. After months of tharapy and recovery in a nursing home he is back and doing better every day. He had a bit of memory lose but has made leaps and bounds and now is beginning to remember my name even though he doesn't see me that often. He can't drive so he walks (he is starting to do that again) or my uncle (also the director) drives him to the museum. He is also working on getting our newsletter together. I am very sorry that I didn't send you this news earlier, I am sorry for the delay.

    Hi Clayton-

Am in regular contact with Al again, since he's been recovering. We've known Al & Edie for getting close to 30 years. They're great people!

    Thanks!

What have you been doing lately?
