I think constructive criticism at times might cause members to shy away from posting. I post mine in an effort to draw critical comments that will hopefully help me see stuff that I might miss and to help me get better. Already seen several things from others that are excellent examples and something I would not have thought of otherwise. The flame wars on the Atlas forum were never a good thing, so it has to be tactful, but helpful at the same time, if that makes any sense...

I frequent a lot of forums in multiple scales, but will try and stay here with my HO stuff...

Plant one seed at a time and soon enough you'll have an entire forest in front of you... :)

I personally hope that criticism doesn't offend anyone. A little bit of criticism, if taken properly could save a modeler a lot of time and money. Over the years I have progressed very slowly on the layout. I have the opportunity to travel a lot and visit with other modelers and have learned so much that has helped me. I a post on the Logan Valley I had mentioned to have been lucky enough to have operated on John Allens G&D a number of times. Back then there was no internet, and until recently it was hard to share information. It's nice to see people beginning of continuing on layouts ask questions. As far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as a stupid question. We're all here to share information.

Wouldn't mind doing that. I haven't been down there since the late 60's. I did enjoy my visit very much.

I don't know how many modelers are familiar with John Allens Gorre & Dephetid railroad. There are a couple of books about this railroad. John passed away in the early 70's but his model railroad is still famous. It was unfortunately destroyed when his home caught fire after his death, but I learned a lot from him. He was a professional photographer and tought me that one of the easiest ways to find flaws with your model railroad was through photography. Back then everything was done with film, but we are all more fortunate today because of modern digital photography. I had a section of my current layout that I am rebuilding because of some mistakes I found thanks to his lessons. Digital photography costs next to nothing and can help us quite a bit in the hobby.
