VIEW SLIDESHOW DENVER – The fire department is still trying to determine what caused an old railroad car to catch on fire. The fire started around 9:30 a.m. Sunday at West 10th Avenue and Osage Street. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire a short time later. No one was hurt. No other information was immediately available.
If nobody was present, it's usually caused by electric, vandal, or vagrant. Anyone know some history of the car? Boxcab E50
Tonight's news does say it was know that vagrants were using the car... I still am not certain what car it is but it was mostly boarded up which made it difficult to freight the fire. :tb-wacky: :tb-wacky:
Lastest from 9News (nothing much new...) DENVER – The fire department is still trying to determine what caused a 40-year-old railroad car to catch on fire Sunday. The fire started around 9:30 a.m. at West 10th Avenue and Osage Street. Firefighters say it was difficult to fight the fire because of the distance from a water source, however, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire about 20 minutes later. Firefighters say because of the personal effects found in the railcar, they believe transients had sought shelter there. No one was inside the car at the time and no one was hurt. The Denver Fire Department has requested that the railcar be removed from the location.
I lived in denver from 1989 to 2003 It does not look like any of the Rio Grande cars. None the less It is sad to see things like this that have historical value destroyed because of the careless disregard of others.
